The Introduction Into Service (IIS) process is an holistic analysis of the complete life of an item of explosive ordnance, from manufacture to disposal (or target). Rather than being a replacement for the NATO Safety & Suitability for Service (S3) methodology, IIS incorporates S3 as part of its process and augments it with operational, logistics, publications, interoperability and engineering design analysis to deliver a total through-life assessment.
